ADVANCED CARDIAC HEALTHCARE
INTRODUCES TECHNOLOGY THAT
OFFERS PATIENTS PORTABLE MEDICAL RECORDS

Kalamazoo, MI (February 21, 2008) – Advanced Cardiac Healthcare, a local cardiology practice, announced today it will begin providing its patients a new technology that allows them to carry their medical records with them at all times in their pocket, wallet or purse.

The technology, MyRECORDTM, is a business card-sized compact disc that contains a patient’s current medical information and history pulled directly from their Advanced Cardiac Healthcare’s electronic medical record system.  The practice is the first group in Michigan to offer this portable medical record technology to consumers.

MyRECORD, developed and marketed by GEMMS, Inc., an Indianapolis healthcare information systems provider, can be inserted into and read by any computer, anywhere in the world.  From the disc’s medical record information, healthcare providers can immediately learn a patient’s personal data, active medications, current diagnosis and treatments, and unique aspects of their health condition, thus supporting better and faster diagnoses and treatment decisions.

“With a MyRECORD disc in their wallet or purse, Advanced Cardiac Healthcare patients and their family members can enjoy the peace of mind that attending medical professionals can make better decisions with access to their medical history and records.  The disc’s information is particularly helpful if a patient is in an emergency room unconscious or unable to speak, and family members are unavailable to answer medical history, allergy and prescription questions posed by healthcare personnel,” says Alan Haaksma, MyRECORD’s inventor and vice president of business development for GEMMS.

“Advanced Cardiac Healthcare is pleased to break new ground in our community by offering our patients exclusive access to this technology.  Accurate and updated patient information is a critical component to supporting effective medical decisions, particularly in emergency situations when timely access to this information can mean the difference between life and death.  In the long run, we believe MyRECORD will support better and safer health care outcomes for our patients,” says Dr. Douglas J.  Wunderly – the group’s President.

“We see tremendous value and potential with this technology.  In addition to containing a patient’s updated medical records, the MyRECORD disc also features educational information specifically suited to a patient’s medical condition.  With greater knowledge and understanding of their condition and treatments, patients can take a more proactive role in their care and long-term well being,” says Dr. Wunderly.  “The product’s cost is less than traditional medical identification bracelets and the technology offers faster, more robust information at the point of care.” Patients will pay a $10 fee for their MyRECORD disc.
